Enter the preferred product details.

  • Products Status:  if you select “out of stock”, the product will NOT be shown.  If you want it to show as “sold out”, you need to select “in stock” and then later change the product quantity
  • Date Available:  If you want to add the product now, but want it to become available for purchase later, then enter a date, if not then just leave blank
  • Products Manufacturer: enter the products manufacturer, or leave blank
  • Products Name: enter the products name
  • Product is Free: select yes or no (you can use this for giveaways)
  • Product is Call for Price: select this option if you want it do display “call or email for price”
  • Product Priced by Attributes: attributes are options you can add to the product, for instance if you give the option of purchasing a product in blue, red or yellow and those options have different prices, then select “yes”.
  •  Tax Class: select “taxable goods” if applicable
  • Products Price (Net): enter price (no $ sign)
  • Products Price (Gross): will be calculated upon the tax you entered in the settings
  • Product is Virtual: select “yes” for digital products or downloads
  • Always Free Shipping: select “yes” or “no”
  • Products Quantity Box Shows: select “yes” if you want customers to be able to select the quantity
  • Product Qty Minimum: enter the minimum amount of products that a customer needs to purchase
  • Product Qty Maximum: enter the maximum amount of products that a customer can purchase
  • Product Qty Units: How many products are in 1 unit, I always have 1 here, because even if I sell a set of 4 glasses, I will sell them as 1 product and not as 4
  • Product Qty Min/Unit Mix: select “yes” if the minimum quantity can be a Mix of Attributes
  • Products Description: enter the product description
  • Products Quantity: enter the products quantity, enter “0” for “out of stock” and I use “-1” for “coming soon” (you can program a different status for every negative amount)
  • Products Model: enter the model, for instance a color, a quantity, a design, a product number, …
  • Products Image:
    - first prepare the image with photo editing software (I crop all my images square, so I can use landscape and portrait images)
    - then click the “browse button” and add the image
    - to make your site more structured, you an choose to add the image in a certain folder, but that folder needs to be created first with ftp
    - to add multiple images: you need to add a number to the filename, for instance you name the main image “flowervase”, then the other images can have the name “flowervase-01” and “flowervase-02”, you have to add those extra images with FTP
  • Products URL: If the product’s manufacturer has a description page for the product, you can use this link to access it, I usually leave it blank
  • Products Shipping Weight: very important if you use an automated shipping calculator!!
  • Sort Order: Sort Order will dictate the order in which products are displayed on the category product page, if left to 0, it will sort alphabetically

When done, please click the Preview button at the top/bottom of the page. That will show the product preview.

2. Edit a product

To edit a product, click the e icon zencart-e-icon in the Action column.

3. Delete a product

To delete a product, click the x icon  zencart-x-iconin the Action column.

4. Move a product

To move a product, click the m icon zencart-m-icon in the Action column.

5. Copy a product

To copy a product, click the c icon  zencart-c-iconin the Action column.  A linked product is a product that is set up to display in more than one category.  This means that you only have to edit that product in one place in order to have changes take effect everywhere it is displayed. Linking also means that you’ll not see the same product appear more than once in a given list of products.
If you make a “copy” of a product, instead of linking it, then you will have two distinct and separate products which would require separate editing if you were to make changes later.  In the case of a copy, you might end up seeing both versions of the product appearing in various product lists.
Use the button “Multiple Categories Link Manager” to quickly add the products to several categories.

6. Add and edit Attributes

To add attributes to a product, click the A icon  zencart-a-iconin the Action column (I will explain about attributes later).
To edit the attributes of a product, click the A icon zencart-aa-icon in the Action column.

7. Edit price

To edit the price of a product, click the $ icon zencart-dollar-icon in the Action column.

8. Add metatags

To add metatags to a product, click the icon zencart-bw-icon in the Action column, it might make it easier to be found by search engines.

This was very helpful, but I’m trying to find out if you can have the sort order for products different in every category if the products are linked between many categories… can you help or direct me to the right place? I haven’t found anything on it yet.

    Thanks!

I don’t think that’s possible. If you want to change the order I think you’ll have to copy the product instead of linking it. Let me know if you found another solution.
